All Saints C E Primary School
Thurlestone, TQ7 3NB Kingsbridge

The school was officially opened in 1974, following the closure of the Church school in South Milton. It then became known as All Saints' Church of England School - this used the designations of both parish churches and was intended to grant a corporate image with which pupils and parents in Thurlestone and South Milton could identify. The school is on a pleasant site affording magnificent views of the coastline and has substantial space, both within the school and its grounds.

About Us

In the entrance to the school there is a marble foundation stone with the inscription Faveat Deus - God favours - dated 1843. We have come a long way since those early days when the school was a one room cottage near the parish church.

In 1905 a new school was built at the top of the village and incorporated - bizarrely - a medieval mullion window hacked out of the church and a stone bust of Queen Victoria.

The first inclusion would today constitute gross vandalism and the second is an historical curiosity: Queen Victoria had been in the grave for four years by the time her effigy was placed at the niche at the front of the school.

There is a story that the parish priest at the time had managed to obtain Queen Victoria at a bargain price and had cycled all the way to Plymouth to collect the sculpture. Whether this is true or not, she remains in place, imperious and stern, nearly 100 years later.

The presesnt school was officially opened in 1974 following the closure of South Milton school and was redesignated "All Saints' Church of England School". This was intended to grant a corporate identity for parents and children in Thurlestone and South Milton.

The 1905 school was substantially extended and constitutes the present building. The school is on a pleasant site affording magnificent views of the coastline and has substantial space, both within the school and its grounds.

Our most recent addition has been the attractive Foundation Stage Outdoor classroom at the front of the school.

All Saints' is an Aided School; the majority of the governors are appointed by the diocese and determine the religious and moral teaching of the school. They are also responsible for the external fabric of the school.

During the last twelve years the school roll has grown from 47 pupils to its current number of 116.

This page's aim is to provide the children with their own area to display their work and describe their favourite parts of school life.

As the school year proceeds, galleries of the some of the children's work will appear here.

The children have been able to suggest ideas for this page and have produced designs featuring pictures of the school and its surrounding area. A newly designed children's page is currently being produced incorporating some of these ideas.

The school runs many after school clubs, including Football, Tag Rugby, Netball, and Chess.
