Information about our school
Appleton primary is a 4-11 year old school, with an on-site nursery. We have an open admission policy and all are welcome.

The Primary School itself is in the Hull region and is mixed gender. It currently has 355 children on roll and includes a 78 place nursery.

Back ground:

Appleton School originally opened its door to pupils nearly 50 years ago, initially it was a middle school but following reorganisation of schooling in Hull in 1986 it became a primary school.

Appleton Primary School occupies a spacious site, surrounded by playing fields for outdoor education. It has a library which was opened in November 2000. It has a nursery unit which is located in a seperate onsite building.

Appleton School holds the Roy Castle Award for clean air.
We also have a healthy schools award!
Since March 2000 we have held the Basic Skills Agency Quality Mark for Primary Schools. We successfully renewed this award in 2004

Appleton is lucky to have its own nursery attached to it and children in the nursery make use of the school facilities joining the reception class for assemblies and making use of the school hall for P.E. activites.

Here at Appleton,we believe that the pupil is central to the whole curriculum. The starting point for the development of the whole curriculum
is an understanding of the ways in which pupils learn. We believe in a curriculum entitlement for all pupils.

We offer a broad and balanced curriculum which enables spiritual, moral, cultural, intellectual, aesthetic, social and physical development for life's opportunities, responsibilities and experiences.

We also believe that the curriculum should reflect breadth, by having a wide range of learning experiences that conform to the national curriculum requirments. That the curriculum should encompass all elements of the planned learning experience, in essence, be balanced. I t should be relevant to the pupils past and possible future experiences, whilst taking into account their needs. We also feel that the curriculum should ensure that each pupil's learning is developmental, in that it build on previous attainment.

The school has a navy blue school uniform which consists of a navy blue sweatshirt or cardigan which has the school logo on it and can be purchased during term time from the school office. This is worn with either a white or pale blue polo shirt and grey trousers or a navy skirt.

During the summer children can wear grey shorts or blue summer dresses. An Appleton navy sun hat can also be purchased from the school office.
