ABOUT US

Ashleigh was designated as a self-governing Foundation Status school in September 1999. The school is non-denominational and caters for pupils in the 4-11 years age group. The standard admission number of the school is 35 pupils per year group from Reception Class to Year 6. There is one main intake of pupils to the Reception Class in September. Admissions of older pupils are dependent on the availability of places and are by arrangement with the Headteacher.

We have a friendly, caring staff and we are justifiably proud of our children for their behaviour and their achievements.

MISSION STATEMENT

At Ashleigh Primary School education is about learners experiencing the joy of discovery, solving problems, being creative in writing, art, music, developing their self-confidence as learners and maturing socially and emotionally. This school will combine high standards with a broad, balanced and rich curriculum. Education will be the fusion of excellence and enjoyment. Learners do better when they are excited and engaged, when there is joy in what they are doing, they learn to love learning.

LEARNING AND TEACHING

The school normally admits up to a limit of 35 children, who will reach their fifth birthday during the school year, to its Reception Class each September. The school is organised into seven teaching groups catering for the Primary Age Range.

The full range of National Curriculum subjects of English, Maths, Science, Technology, Art, History, Geography, Music and P.E. are taught in accordance with the National Orders and R.E. in accordance with the L.C.C. and Blackburn Diocese agreed syllabuses. The class teacher is responsible for teaching all subjects with his or her class although some specialisation takes place in Music and P.E. Children with Special Needs receive extra help through individual or small group tuition given by the Special Needs teacher and Special Support Assistant on a timetabled basis. Particular emphasis is placed upon developing the potential of the more able pupils through individualised programmes or extension work.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

Children are encouraged to participate in many activities organised during the lunch hour or before and after school. These include Choir, Recorder, Football, Street Dance, Cheerleading, Fitness, Self Defence, Cricket, Rugby, Netball, Rounders, Athletics, Cross Country, Golf, Art, ICT, Design Technology, Textiles, Keyboard, Brass and Woodwind, Guitar and Homework clubs. Children are informed when these activities take place. In addition the school normally enters teams in the Darwen Schools’ Swimming, Netball, Rounders, Cross Country, Football and Cricket competitions and leagues.
