SPECIAL CLASS

At Banavie Primary  we are fortunate to have a  Special Class in our school which  caters for pupils with a range of severe and profound learning difficulties.

The Teacher in delegated with the responsibility of running the class is Mrs M Gray who is assisted by a team of Learning Support Auxiliaries.   At the present time there is 5 full-time pupils with  three L.S.A.s in the class.

The children each follow an individual education programme that is designed to meet their special needs.

This consists of the following elements,

1)          Communication and Language

2)          Functional Movement

3)          Personal and Social Development

4)          Relating to the Environment

Religious and Moral Education and the Expressive Arts are included throughout these four areas.

The multi-disciplinary team that includes, staff, physiotherapist, speech and language therapist and occupational therapist, implements these areas of the curriculum when available.

Integration with mainstream children for social activities is maximised as far as our resources are able.

This includes lunchtimes, playtimes, school assemblies and certain activities within the mainstream class structure.

Annual reviews are held for our Special Class pupils as well as regular Record of Needs meetings.   These take place to assess the future requirements of the children.
