ABOUT US

Beal Vale Primary School is a one-form entry primary school with Nursery Class for boys and girls aged 3-11 years, which was opened on 7th April 1975. The standard admission number is 30 children.

The Nursery Class can take up to 60 part-time, or 30 full-time or a mix of full and part-time pupils. Nursery children must be 3 years old on the 31st August prior to starting Nursery in September. At present there is no charge for Nursery places.

After Nursery, the children may move up to Beal Vale Reception Class or transfer to another Primary School. The building is of modern, open-plan design and the grounds have both allweather and grass sports pitches as well as a large playground area.

AIMS

Whilst academic achievement is important, we recognise our role in developing the “whole child”. Therefore we aim to promote not just intellectual growth but his/her physical, social, moral, spiritual, emotional, creative and aesthetic development, as well as raising self-esteem, encouraging a sense of responsibility, initiative, and self-discipline.

As a School we continually strive to improve and aim to prepare our pupils to make a positive and responsible contribution to life in our ever-changing and increasingly technological world. We aim to develop a strong partnership with parents and encourage all our pupils to develop as citizens of the school and wider community.

CURRICULUM MATTERS

We seek to offer a broad, practical and activity based curriculum as far as possible. We aim to make our curriculum available to all pupils irrespective of gender and so you will see boys baking and sewing as well as girls using the computer and playing football. Games lessons are skills based and the children are not grouped by sex.

All classes follow the relevant parts of the National Curriculum for their age group, with a strong emphasis on the core subjects of English, Maths, Science and ICT. The foundation subjects of Art, Music, Technology, Geography, History, and PE are also taught in line with National Curriculum guidelines and varied according to the age group and abilities of the pupils.

Educational visits as well as video and on-line resources are used throughout the year to enrich the work in class and support the curriculum. Swimming lessons are available to all pupils from Year 2 onwards, but children do not swim each week all year round.

Lessons are organised on a rota basis. Children walk to Crompton Pool and usually combine this with a visit to Shaw Library.
