| ABOUT US
Bedford High School has long been established as a centre of excellence in education. Our standards and values are both rigorous and traditional. At the same time we are not content to stand still and therefore we constantly seek to improve the facilities and opportunities available to our students.
Your child is important to us and, as a parent myself, I am determined that we continue to offer what I want for my own children, namely;- both within the classroom and in our range of of extra-curricular activities, a caring learning environment that is second to none.
|
| "We endeavour to create opportunities for individual achievement within a purposeful, supportive and caring environment" |
| - To encourage children to develop lively, enquiring minds: giving them the ability to question and argue rationally, and apply themselves to tasks.
- To provide a basis of mathematical, scientific and technical knowledge, enabling boys and girls to learn the essential skills needed in a fast-changing world of work.
- To teach children about human achievement and aspirations in the arts and sciences, in religion, and in the search for a just social order.
- To help children develop physically, and to develop attitudes of individual physical fitness and team spirit.
- To instill respect for moral values, for other people and for oneself, and tolerance of other races, religions and ways of life.
- To encourage and foster the development of children whose social or environmental disadvantages reduce their capacity to learn, if necessary by making additional resources available to them.
- To encourage children to use language accurately, effectively and imaginatively in reading, writing and speaking.

| On joining the school in year 7 pupils follow the National Curriculum. As at key stage 2 pupils will study the core subjects English, Maths and Science together with the foundation subjects of Art, Music, Drama, a modern Foreign Language, History, Geography, RE, PSHE, PE and ICT. Strong links with our primary schools help ensure that each pupil's progress is not interrupted by the change to secondary school.
|
| At National Curriculum Key Stage 4 pupils follow a range of courses over two years, leading to GCSE and BTEC examinations. The range is broad, including vocational options to meet the varying needs and interests of pupils.
Increasingly we are looking to provide a greater range of options at Key Stage 4 such as BTEC to ensure we are meeting the varying needs of pupils.
Subjects are selected during year 9. Choices are carefully guided with parent's meetings and private consultations arranged. This enables the pupils to make positive decisions that will help them make the best of their opportunities and meet their career or higher education needs.
Gifted pupils are entered for their GCSE in year 10 in certain subjects. We were one of the first schools in England to offer full BTEC Media.
