Welcome to Beechwood Primary School

This community school was built in 1959 on a large open site. Originally separate, the infant and junior schools were combined to form the new primary school in 1988. We now share the site with the Ambleside centre, which is convenient for parents with younger siblings. The school has received substantial investment in present times. Our staff is knowledgeable, committed and hard working.

How to Find Us?

School Tour

They, along with the governors, aim to do the very best for each child in the school, in order that they obtain the first class education that they deserve.

Most children want to learn and we encourage this positive attitude from the child's first day. By the time the child leaves us at the age of 11 they would have become a confident independent learner, who is aware of their own worth and responsibilities to both the school and the wider community.

Breakfast Club

Our children benefit from single year group teaching, which has improved their overall performance. We have arrangements for giving extra support to children with learning difficulties and also provide support and assistance to the very able. Both the infant and juniors are supported by teaching assistants, which offer an excellent adult to pupil ratio.

We actively encourage parents and their children to visit the school and guarantee that you will not be disappointed.

Lunch Menu

The school has recently undergone a series of internal refurbishments and an upgrade to the safety for pedestrians within the site. As part of our ongoing programme, some of the facilities upgraded recently include a state of the art ICT suite, a new fully stocked library and the creation of specialist teaching rooms for music, art and P.E.

The hall and dining room facilities are spacious, richly decorated in the schools colours and are the theatre of so much active learning.

Outside, the quiet reflective garden has been transformed into a sanctuary for children to withdraw to at their playtime or to study wildlife and the environment as part of groups or a class. This is also part of a superb outdoor playing area comprising of two playgrounds and a large field, which is used for a variety of sports and leisure activities.

We are fortunate to have our own outdoor heated swimming pool, which all of the children, from the Foundation Stage to Year 6, use at least twice a week during the summer term.

We believe in making the best use of these facilities, which are now so rarely found in modern schools. There is no doubt that they enhance the learning of our children.

Going to school in a competitive era certainly encouraged him to further his skills and talents and he represented his school in a wide range of activities. He was encouraged by his PE teacher to use his talents to represent his school, club and county in rugby, soccer and cricket and also ran for Wales in cross country and middle distance track athletics.

In between he was a deputy head Chorister at Brecon Cathedral following his father into the Choir. Since those times Gordon has moved on and constantly packed his life with so many achievements and experiences.

His passions in life are skiing, mountains, coaching, travelling, languages, cricket and the Olympics. He has met Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Chris Bonnington.

He would like to walk in the Himalayas, Tibet and visit Patagonia in Argentina where his Welsh ancestors emigrated in the 19th Century.
