BEVERLEY GRAMMAR SCHOOL
ADMISSIONS POLICY
The Admissions Committee of the Governing Body will use the following criteria, in order of priority, when considering applications for admission.
The school will fulfil its legal obligations by giving places to any applicants whose statement of special educational needs names this school and those who are looked after by a local authority. The following will then apply:
1. Boys who are resident in the catchment area. If, because of over-subscription, it is necessary to prioritise within the criterion the distance from the boy’s home to school will be measured and priority given to those living nearest to the school.
2. Boys who have a sibling, defined as having one common parent, attending the school in Years 7-11 at the time the decisions about the allocation of places are made. If, because of over-subscription, it is necessary to prioritise within this criterion, priority will be given to siblings with the closest proximity in age.
3. Any other boys who apply. If, because of over-subscription, it is necessary to prioritise within this criterion the distance from the boy’s house to school will be measured and priority will be given to those living nearest to the school.
In all instances where, because of over-subscription, distance is an issue it will be measured according to the guidelines in the admissions arrangements published by the LEA for community and voluntary controlled schools.
For the September 2006 Year 7 intake the admission number will be 130.
A waiting list will operate in the event of over-subscription. Parents will be asked to confirm their place on that list on a termly basis. If a place becomes vacant the admissions committee of the school will consider everyone on the waiting list at that time against the admissions criteria. |
