Introduction
Exercise and fitness has always been an integral part of many people's lives. Why is this? Well, there are obviously health benefits, such as weight loss, lowering of blood pressure, boosting the immune system, reducing cholesterol levels and decreasing the chance of developing diabetes, to mention just a few!
Some people exercise for psychological reasons, for example to decrease their stress levels, or to increase their self confidence and self esteem, therefore improving their physical self perception. Others exercise purely as a way of socialising with new people or old friends.
At Bishop Grosseteste University College Lincoln all students and staff can now take advantage of these benefits (and many more!!) by using the equipment in our Sports and Fitness Centre which was officially opened, by sports presenter John Inverdale, in February 2006.
Fitness Suite
The Fitness Suite offers a wide range of cardiovascular equipment including treadmills, cross trainers and rowing machines. All help to contribute to fat burning (a major health benefit) and assist in toning up various muscle groups.
Our resistance equipment and free weights help individuals to work all the major muscle groups in the body. By varying the amount of repetitions done during the activity, productivity within the muscle will increase, which in turn helps people improve strength and gain definition. Our equipment is suitable for all abilities and fitness levels and even caters for individuals requiring rehabilitation from injury. |
| All members of the student body and staff are welcome to join as members of the Centre. Our experienced fitness professionals will ensure that your needs are met with a thorough induction and will also guarantee a fulfilling and enjoyable workout. Currently, the Fitness Suite is free to all students. Staff pay a small monthly fee. To join simply phone up and book an induction with one of our members of staff.
Sports Hall
The Sports and Fitness Centre boasts an impressive Sports Hall. This is available for hire by members of the University College, as well as external parties and individuals. It caters for a wide selection of activities: courts in the Sports Hall are marked out for 5-aside football, hockey, netball, basketball, badminton and tennis. |
| Currently five University College societies make full use of our sports hall and equipment. The badminton, football, T.A.G and hockey societies are popular - they are played by many of the students at the University College and are continuing to grow in numbers.
As well as equipment for sports, the Sports Hall also provides some gymnastic equipment, a selection of floor games and activities, and general equipment that can be used in training or as part as a fun activity.
If you feel like coming down to the sports hall and playing some football with some friends or a game of badminton, contact us to book a date and a court and we will be happy to accommodate you. The Sports Hall is free for students to use when available. For staff the Hall is £15 per hour and for external parties £30 per hour. Feel free to ring up (link to contact details above) and check our availability, times and other prices.
