Welcome

Mr. K. Yeates - Head Teacher

I wish to extend to you a warm welcome to Blue Coat Church of England Comprehensive School - A Performing Arts Specialist College, and to our website. It is intended to give you information as well as some examples of what students and teachers achieve together here.

Blue Coat is a high achieving 11-19 mixed comprehensive school. We strive to serve our young people by setting the highest standards of teaching and learning and community life, enabling everyone to grow in God's love, wisdom and strength.

Blue Coat is recognised as adding significant value to pupils' educational accomplishments, and we recorded another successful year of examination results with 49% of students being awarded five A*-C at GCSE in 2005. This amounts to very high value added, well above the national average. We aim to foster an enjoyment of the challenge of learning and to develop the educational potential of all. The curriculum is designed to emphasize discovery, problem-solving, inquiry, creative and critical thinking and self-direction so that pupils have the ability to think independently, enquire, communicate effectively and to work in a team.

We are proud of our Christian heritage, celebrated in the prominent position given to Religious Education and the importance of daily assemblies. We pride ourselves on our dedication to the whole student through our pastoral care system. We aim not only to provide a first class education but to produce tomorrow's leaders.

It is not enough for a school established on Christian values to focus upon purely academic achievement. We believe that working with students and their families to promote an understanding of the way the hope demonstrated by Jesus must be reflected in our lives is highly important. Equally, we lay emphasis upon spiritual matters that lie above the mundane, day-to-day concerns we face.

As a Performing Arts Specialist College, we are dedicated to every student developing their talents and realising their potential. Regular school performances enhance the curriculum provision. All performances are professionally produced reaching the highest standards. This focus on excellence raises self-esteem, increases personal confidence, motivation and improves academic success.

We are also proud of our traditions as part of a Blue Coat foundation that was established three hundred years ago. We are always seeking ways to improve and to ensure that we equip our students with the skills to succeed. Visitors are always welcome at Blue Coat and I invite you to come and visit the school, to sense some of the excitement we feel about education, and the care we show to our students.

If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Mr. K. Yeates - Head Teacher
