Bolney School is situated in a quiet corner of the village, on high ground well away from busy roads. It is close to St. Mary Magdalene Church and faces a large open area of glebe land which incorporates the village cricket pitch. The School uses this glebe land as an extra play area in summer and for games activities throughout the year. Attractive green areas at the rear of the School building have been developed as play and environmental study resource areas with climbing equipment, two small copses and a 'wild' area.

The original school building was fabricated from sandstone in 1871. In 1996 adaptations and extension work were carried out to provide a purpose built early years classroom unit and outdoor area, and a library.

The original Head teacher's cottage now provides an ICT room, the Bursar's and Head teacher's office, a staff room and resources room.

The Autumn term in 2002 saw the school further enhanced by the completion of a new hall, group room incorporating a learning support area, and storage space. The new building is connected to the old by an attractive, enclosed walkway, providing space for resources and cloakroom areas. A new staff room was completed to the rear of the cottage in the Summer of 2005.

It is the intention to further develop and improve the use of the school grounds around our buildings.

In January 2007, our foundation Stage Area was completed and now boasts a custom made wooden climbing frame and rubber safety surface onto which is incorporated a road traffic system for trikes! This area is enclosed with planters.

April 2007 saw the loss one of our two large oak trees set to the front of the school. The tree had long suffered disease, but still took three days of careful felling (11-13 April 2007).

NEARS Group:
Bolney School is an active member of the Network of Eastern Area Rural Schools. This is a lively and successful group of co-operating rural schools based in this area of Sussex who have shared educational aims and philosophy. The group organises a variety of activities throughout the year which give children opportunities to enhance their learning and to work with larger groups of children in the same year group through participation in academic, musical and sporting activities. Training sessions and discussion groups are also organised for teachers, enabling staff to benefit from wider professional contacts.
