The Nursery Class has two sessions daily, morning and afternoon, with forty children in each session. The staff/children ratio is 1:10.
Applications for a place in either of these sessions can be made when a child is two years old. Children can start the Nursery class when they are three if there are places available. Parents are encouraged to stay until the child settles.
Priority is given to children who are in their pre-school year. However, please note that enrolment in the Nursery Class does not guarantee a place in Primary 1.
The Nursery provides a rich, secure and stimulating environment for pre-school children. There are plenty of opportunities for both free and structured play and through this children learn to cooperative with the others in the class.
Children have a wide choice of activities including:
- art
- sand and water
- baking
- role play
- construction
- small world
- music and drama
Involvement with stories, poetry and rhymes also feature prominently
Children are introduced to Information and Communications Technology and use the Nursery computers to support learning through various software packages and to access the Internet.
In dry weather many hours are spent out of doors, either developing essential physical skills or observing seasonal changes in our Nursey garden.
The Infant Department at the school has a close relationship with the Nursery Class. There is also a strong and friendly liaison between other Nurseries in the area with two-way visits during the session. |
