Braddan School Mission Statement

Here at Braddan School, we believe that education should be a positive experience that enables children to develop skills and knowledge that will prepare them for life in an ever changing world. Education influences and reflects the values of the society in which we live, and through it children should learn to value themselves and others.

It is our aim to make all children in the school feel valued and secure by building mutual respect between teachers and learners. We believe that this can be achieved by encouraging a fair exchange of views and knowledge in a nurturing, caring environment, where confidence and self-discipline can develop.

In order for children to learn, they need to have rich and stimulating experiences, and to this end, the teachers undertake to provide well-planned, purposeful activities which will engage the children in the learning process. The structure and pace of lessons aim to make the learning process challenging and enjoyable.

The teachers are committed to delivering an inclusive curriculum that takes account of the different ability levels of individuals, so that all children have the opportunity to achieve success at their own levels. This is achieved by establishing what learners already know and then building on it, with regular assessment informing targets for future learning.

Because we believe that all children and adults within the school environment should share a broad set of values, we promote the virtues of respect, trust, honesty, justice and duty.

In a school which is becoming more culturally diverse, we expect all children and adults, of whatever ethnic or religious group, to be treated with respect and would aim to ensure that all are given the same opportunities as members of the school community.

We see Braddan School as being an integral part of both the local and the Island community and this is reflected in the study of the Island’s history, geography and culture. Parents and representatives of the wider community are always welcome, as we acknowledge the positive contribution they can make to the education of the children in the school.

Above all, we aim to make the childrens’ time at Braddan School an enjoyable and enriching experience that will prepare them for the next stage of their education and help them to become more rounded individuals who will ultimately be able to contribute to society in a positive way.

Please note that the school cannot be held responsible for any problems that arise concerning travel on school buses nor problems at bus stops in the morning.

UNIFORM

The school has a school uniform and the basic colours are red and grey. Considerable care and thought has been given to this uniform to enable parents to obtain the items of clothing easily and yet for it to have a smart and distinctive appearance. Certain items of clothing such as ‘T’ shirts, sweatshirts can be ordered from Esquire Corporate Design Wear, Duke Street, Douglas, and these have the school emblem printed on them.

BRADDAN SCHOOL UNIFORM

GIRLS

Skirt/Pinafore Dress Grey

Blouse/Shirt White or Grey

Pullover/Jumper/Cardigan Red as in the tie or grey

Tights/Socks White, Grey, Red or Black

Shoes Black or Brown with sensible heel size

BOYS

Trousers Grey (long or short)

Shirt White or Grey

Pullover/Jumper Red or grey

Shoes Black or Brown

Braddan School sweatshirts/’T’ shirts may be worn as an alternative. Also a red polo shirt may be worn (available from Esquire’s Corporate Design).

It is hoped that as many pupils as possible will wear the school uniform. However, if for any reason they do not, we expect children to come to school neatly and tidily dressed, sensible shoes and clothing being very important. Designer/Fashion clothing such as tracksuits, bermuda shorts, jeans et cetera are NOT considered suitable.

Every child needs SHORTS, PUMPS, ‘T’ SHIRT and SOCKS for PE and Sports. A gym bag is best for keeping these items together while at school. Junior boys may also need football boots and all Junior children will require a swimming costume. Tracksuits/jogging bottoms and sweatshirt may be worn for outside practices in cold weather.
