ABOUT US

Braidwood Primary is a modern school situated in Lower Braidwood, approximately half a mile from the A73 on the B7056 to Crossford.

The current building was opened in 1974. It is a round, semi-open plan design. The outer circle of the school accommodates 7 class bases, two open areas and an ICT computer suite. The inner circle has two open areas, one for use by P.1-3 pupils and one for use by P.4 pupils. It also has a well resourced fiction and non-fiction library. The carpeted centre circle is used for P.E, drama and assemblies. The design of the school helps to pull the school community together well.

We pride ourselves on having a very committed team of teaching and non-teaching staff. Parents are very supportive and we benefit greatly from the involvement of an interested School Board and a very active Parent Teachers Association.

The school is bright with attractive displays of pupils' work. There is a calm, purposeful environment and our pupils are encouraged towards increasing independence within their learning. Our staff implement effective strategies to make learning as interesting and meaningful for the children as possible.

AIMS

  • Curriculum: Through thorough, focused planning each child will have access to a broad and balanced curriculum catering for the needs of all children and reflecting full implementation of 5-14 initiatives.
  • Attainment: We aim to ensure that all pupils will be assessed in a variety of ways, both formal and informal, including National Tests, and that information gathered will form the basis of pupils' next steps in development to ensure that all pupils achieve their maximum potential.
  • Learning and Teaching: Children will be motivated by a full range of learning and teaching approaches appropriate to their needs, encouraging self motivation and independent thinking with parents being fully and regularly informed of their child's progress and of in-school developments.
  • Support for pupils: Through effective caring support systems including access to appropriate support services, the educational, emotional physical and social needs of each pupil will be met.
  • Ethos: By continually building effective links with parents and the wider community we aim to maintain a safe, welcoming, stimulating and supportive environment where all school staff, parents and pupils feel valued and involved in the corporate life of the school.
  • Resources: Through effective organisation we will ensure that we provide a suitable range of appropriate resources to maximise learning opportunities and through both formal and informal staff development and support we will ensure that all staff are effectively deployed.
  • Management, leadership and quality assurance: Through strong leadership, appropriate deployment of promoted staff and development of an effective team we aim to ensure quality through regular self evaluation and effective monitoring by the Head Teacher, setting and achieving realistic targets within a focused relevant development plan.
