Broadwindsor School was built in 1968 and is a single storey building occupying a prominent place in the village of Broadwindsor, one of the most beautiful parts of Dorset.
The school has four classrooms and a school hall. It is resourced in all areas of the curriculum. Our current emphasis is to increase resources in English and the Humanities.
The school grounds enable all our children to play on grass or on a hard play area depending on the weather. There are two environmental areas including a natural stream and a newly developed pond area. All classes use the outside areas in different ways to support curriculum work.
Admissions
The school has adopted and uses the local Education Authority Admissions Policy; a full copy can always be viewed in the school office.
The reception children are admitted as a group in the Autumn term for part-time education and dependent on their birthdays, will begin full time education in the Spring term.
Schoolwear
The uniform is practical, smart and comfortable. The school colours are green and grey. Sweatshirts, Fleeces, T-shirts, reading bags, sun hats and ties are available from the school office (prices on request).
Footwear; trainers are kept for P.E. only and solid shoes are worn during the winter months. Summer sandals should have an enclosed front and socks should be worn for added protection.
Every child needs a shoe bag, which should contain plimsolls or trainers, dark coloured shorts, a white T-shirt / green school T-shirt. Football boots may be required but not for Key Stage 1 children. All items must be labelled and kit is sent home on every half term, but must be in school at the beginning of every school week.
The children need an old shirt / T-shirt for art work and we can usually provide groups with these items. The children will need a warm coat during the winter months as we try to give the children fresh air daily. Sometimes the weather is cold but dry and so a coat is definitely needed.
Transport
The Education Committee has adopted the following walking distances:
v Pupils under 8 years of age ; 2 miles
v Pupils 8 years or over ; 3 miles
It is the policy of the Education Committee to allow children living within the required walking distance to occupy seats on County or Contract vehicles on a concessionary basis. This is on the understanding that the concession will be withdrawn should the seats be required for children entitled to transport. There is a charge for this provision - please contact the school office for further details.
If your child normally travels on the bus and you have changed arrangements you must inform the school 48 hours in advance by letter, 'phone or in person, otherwise the child will be sent home by bus as usual. Pupils travelling on buses are under the control of the bus driver. Children are issued with a bus pass. |
