Dear Parents,

We welcome your child to Bryn Gwalia County Primary School, and hope that he/she will have happy and fruitful years here.   We also look forward to establishing a close working relationship with you.

Bryn Gwalia is a Community School which was opened in September 1967.  It caters for Nursery/Infant and Junior children. It is a co-educational day school.  Part time nursery education is offered in the Early Years Unit for five morning sessions every week for pupils who are four years of age before 31st August.  The Reception is part of the Early Years Unit, first and second year Infant pupils are in two mixed ability classes.  There are at present four Junior classes of mixed ability.  The quality of the building in terms of design and location is very good indeed and provides a learning environment which is not only pleasant but stimulating.

First and foremost children must be happy in school and this is what we endeavour to do, by providing a happy learning environment in which a child will learn.

Children learn best from situations in which they are actively involved, and which grows from their interests and enthusiasm, and from stimuli provided by their teachers.  The enthusiasm and energy for learning comes from the interest generated between children and their teachers.

The needs of every individual child are met by work, planned at the level which best suits the ability of the child.

I think it is appropriate that I should mention some of the aims of the school in this foreword that we consider very important.

The prime aim of Ysgol Bryn Gwalia is to create and maintain a happy, caring and secure environment in which everyone will develop their potential to the full.  Consideration is given for our environment and multifarious community through being responsive to the social and linguistic needs of individuals.

To foster self worth and mutual respect empowering pupils to take an active role in achieving their potential.

We recognise the uniqueness of every child and seek to augment a sense of individuality, develop a positive attitude and an enquiring mind.

To provide a broad, balance and relevant education that provides intellectual, social, emotional, physical, aesthetic and spiritual growth.

Nurture a stimulating learning environment in which all members of the school may flourish.

Endeavour to deliver and implement the National Curriculum and deploy resources appropriately.

It is to be remembered that a school curriculum is the sum total of all the experiences a child has while attending a particular school.
