We aim to promote and support appropriate teaching and learning experiences that foster the abilities of our gifted and talented children, as well as all other groups of children. We recognise that our gifted and talented children have particular educational needs, which need to be identified and met.

Our teaching aims to enable all the children to achieve the highest standards possible during the middle years of their schooling and to develop the knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes needed to lead a fulfilling life.

We endeavour to ensure that effective learning takes place by:

  • encouraging an active approach to learning in a variety of groupings;
  • planning activities that build upon the children’s backgrounds and attainments;
  • sharing learning objectives with the children;
  • recognising and praising the children’s achievements and using them as a basis for further planning;
  • emphasising the children’s learning targets and goals;
  • having high expectations of the children;
  • using assessment to inform planning;
  • making the curriculum accessible to all the children, whilst recognising that they may learn differently.

Our library houses fiction, non-fiction, audio books and some limited computer facilities. We use the Dewey Decimal cataloguing system in line with Dorset libraries. Children are allowed one non-fiction and one fiction book at any one time and day loans for reference books, all accessed through the Eclipse computerised security system. Should a child lose a book, there will be a charge made for replacement cost and a letter will be sent home to parents requesting contribution to the replacement. Should the book be found the contribution will be refunded.
