Welcome

The Canterbury High School is an all ability co-educational 11-19 Foundation School. We will select up to 15% of our intake on musical ability. We are 1 of only 5 Specialist Sports Colleges in Kent.

We have a large Sixth Form with over 150 students which includes the country's first Athletics Youth Academy, offer a range of advanced courses and send an increasing number of students on to university.

It has superior accommodation, excellent facilities, first class resources and continuously improving academic results.

We strongly believe that most students, irrespective of their perceived ability at 11, will do as well at The Canterbury High School, and probably better, than at any other local school. We are full in all years and there is a waiting list. DfES Value Added figures place us in the top 25% of all schools nationally.

ABOUT US

It is with great pride that I write as Headteacher of The Canterbury High School.  I have an absolute commitment to the value of a high quality comprehensive education.

Clearly the choice of secondary school that you make with your son or daughter is one of the most important decisions that you will ever take. I am sure that reading this brochure coupled with a visit to the school will help you to come to a wise and informed choice.
I have a clear vision for this school, which I would like to share with you:
"The many people who make up The Canterbury High School place great emphasis upon high achievement in all areas of human endeavour. They will build upon the good work already done in the home and primary schools. Students and Staff, in particular, will work together to maximise not only potential, but also actual success. The Governors and Parents will actively and positively support this high achievement ethos. Striving for the highest educational standards will take place in pleasant, appropriate and well resourced accommodation.
Further opportunities for personal growth and enterprise will be provided by the wider community, both local and international. This success will be achieved within a caring environment that places great emphasis upon the development of the individual, so that he or she can face the future with confidence. "
We are well on the way to making this vision a reality and my promise to you is to continue to strive to reach the very highest standards in comprehensive education. When your child leaves The Canterbury High School as a young adult all of us will be proud of your child's achievement. My belief in the importance of the individual is summed up in the statement "Every young person is special". I believe that you can play a vital part with me in making my vision of The Canterbury High School a reality, so that your child's achievement here becomes very special to us all.
