WELCOME!

Castle View School is an 11 -16 co-educational, comprehensive school, situated on the North of Canvey Island, overlooking Hadleigh downs.

The school is a non-selective comprehensive of 900 pupils. The pupil numbers will increase by 60 per year until 2011 when the school relocates to new premises. Our reputation is based on consistent achievement in all areas of the curriculum and traditional values.

If you are looking for a school that is firmly focused on developing the skills, knowledge and expertise for living and working in the 21st century, then you may wish to come and find out more about us. Castle View School is a friendly school; you are welcome to visit our Open Days, on our parent tour mornings, or by individual appointment, when I should be happy to show you around personally. A full prospectus is available from our reception area, or you may telephone or e-mail to have one sent to you.

I look forward to meeting you.

ADMISSIONS

Over-subscription
Where applicants for admission exceed the number of places available, the following criteria will be applied, in the order set out below, to decide which children to admit:

  1. Looked after children.
  2. Children having a sibling* currently enrolled at the school.
  3. Proximity of the child's home to the school, using the sraight line distance as measured by the LEA's Geographical Information System, with those living nearest being accorded the higher priority.
Exceptions
The following may override the above criteria:

    • Pupils with statements of educational needs that name a school in the statement are required to be admitted to the school that is named.
    • Exceptional medical circumstances (detailed by medical evidence)

In the event of a 'tie' between applications in any criterion the straight line distance from the school to the child's home will be used as a tie-break mechanism.

    * The sibling link is defined as

    • An older sibling must be attending the school at the time the application for the younger child is submitted and there must be a reasonable expectation that the older child will stillbe at the school at the time the younger child is admitted.
    • A sibling includes a child living in the same family unit in the family household and address. This includes brothers and sisters and stepbrothers and sisters. Additionally biological siblings are treated as siblings irrespective of residence.
