School Dress
We expect all children to wear uniform in the school colours which are... black, grey or navy blue trousers or skirts, navy sweatshirts, cardigans or jumpers and white shirts, blouses or polo shirts.
If you would like your child to have a sweatshirt or fleece jacket with the school logo on, these can be ordered through the school at a reasonable price.
Please label all items of school clothing worn with your child’s name.
School dress in PE
For safety reasons a change of clothing and footwear are required for PE. Shorts and t-shirt or tracksuits are recommended. Suitable footwear is considered to be trainers or plimsoles for outside use and bare feet inside.
The sports pitch is used in the winter and we recommend a warm track suit or joggers and top.
Links with home
We are always happy to see parents and carers in school to discuss any problems. Appointments need to be made before or after school with the class teacher. All helpers in school need to have security checks. We have two open evenings each year when parents are invited into school to discuss their children’s progress and a written report is given to each child towards the end of the academic year. Parents who have something to discuss with an individual teacher may call in at the beginning or end of the school day.
Links with high schools
At the end of Year 6 our children transfer to high school. Every effort is made to ensure that this takes place as smoothly as possible. Year 7 teachers from the high schools visit our school to discuss life at high school with our leavers and to discuss the achievements of those children with our Year 6 staff. The children also have the opportunity to visit the school in the summer term before the transfer. An open evening is usually held at the high school for parents.
Behaviour
The school maintains a positive, caring working atmosphere. We work together to encourage children to be responsible, kind and considerate to each other. The praise and reward of good behaviour is preferred to the negative of punishing bad.
Class and individual rewards are frequently given for good work and behaviour. However, our children are aware that inappropriate behaviour will be met with sanctions which will be administered fairly and consistently. These include isolation within the classroom, minutes deducted from playtime or time in other classes. Parents will always be informed of persistent or extreme misbehaviour.
Special Educational Needs
At some time in their school career children may need additional support to enable them to fully participate in their education. Children with Special Educational Needs are integrated into all aspects of school life through a whole school approach. The needs of these children are met through the class teacher, support staff and the SEN co-ordinator .
Individual Education programmes are drawn up which meet the children’s specific needs and these are implemented within the classroom and also through specialised small group teaching. Thoughtful assessment and testing helps in this teaching and notable achievements are made and recognised by all children.
Independence, self-advocacy, a respect for others and the development of self-esteem are integral aims within our Special Educational Needs curriculum. Castleton Primary School strives for maximum participation with parents and carers in order to achieve partnership in Special Educational Needs Education.
Absence from school
If a child is unable to attend school for any reason, please inform the school by letter or telephone as soon as possible.
When a school receives no direct communication from parents or carers concerning a child’s absence, this has to be recorded as unauthorised in the school register in the same way as truancy. If the school receives no communication, the Education Welfare Officer may be contacted. In recent years we have had very few instances of unauthorised absences at Castleton. With your assistance, we hope this will continue. |
