a) Curriculum Structure

b) First and Second Year
Pupils entering S1 choose to study either French (3) and German (1) OR Gaelic(3) and French(1) OR Gaelic (3) and German (1) as the languages additional to English. First Year classes follow a common course in mixed-ability classes with the following subject exceptions:
i) In session 2001-2002, the school introduced an intensive literacy/ numeracy project where a small class of pupils who would have struggled in mixed ability classes were given specialised teaching and curricular support:this initiative has continued in subsequent sessions.
ii) After appropriate testing, all Maths classes are set according to ability from October onwards.
In Second Year, setting in either 2 or 3 sections is extended to English, History and Modern Languages - in addition to Mathematics.
Departments employ a variety of teaching styles and methods to achieve differentiated learning - with appropriate assistance from SfL staff. Courses are provided within all modes to ensure breadth and balance in the curriculum - viz:
