Welcome to Our School

We aim to be a school where everyone is happy to work and strive to achieve their full potential.

We believe that education is concerned with the all round development of each child according to age and ability and provides the opportunity for children to develop their full potential as members of the community spiritually, morally, physically and intellectually.

Aims and Values

“A caring learning community, fulfilling potential and achieving excellence together”

As a Voluntary Aided Church of England School within the Diocese of Exeter we will always strive to enable every child to attain the highest possible standards in their education. We plan to achieve this through our aims and core values which have been developed, following consultation with parents, governors, staff and pupils.

The aims of Chittlehampton Church of England Primary School are to:

  • Establish a Christian ethos of care and respect for everyone both in school and in the wider community
  • Nurture and value each individual’s achievements, ensuring that everyone assumes responsibility for their own actions and is prepared to make a positive contribution in life
  • Create a ‘can do’ culture where risk taking is encouraged and where there is no fear of failure
  • Inspire lifelong independent learning
  • Aspire to the highest possible standards of teaching and learning within an exciting broad and creative curriculum
  • Provide a safe, stimulating, healthy and happy environment in which to learn
  • Promote high expectations and enjoy high levels of achievement in all aspects of the curriculum and life of the school
  • Fully develop effective and meaningful links with the home, the Church and the wider community

Our Community

Chittlehampton is a beautiful Devon village, set amidst rolling hills, meandering rivers, wooded follies and green fields. The village was one of the first centres for Saxon colonisation.

At the heart of the village sits a cobbled square surrounded by thatched cottages, traditional Devonshire houses and a famous Public House ‘The Bell'.

At the top of the village square sits the majestic Church dedicated to St Hieritha, and right next door, our school.

We also have a thriving Post Office and store, a Methodist church and a Village Hall. We are an active community. ‘The Bell Inn’ has a pool, darts & skittles teams.
There is a football and cricket club as well as a golf society.  There are many social groups from a Gardening Club to Young Farmers Club.

Our village is twinned with Baron-Sur-Oden in France and we exchange letters with children from their school.

The village also has a mother & toddle session 2 mornings per week. We regularly invite them to join us for special occasions, or have a creative play morning with them.

The village organises many community events and we like to participate in these whenever possible.

We took part in the Trafalgar Day celebrations, our children performed at their Black Voices Concert, we helped revive the ‘Chittlehampton Carols’ and will be performing in the Chittlehampton Festival of Music.  In turn, we are always delighted to welcome anyone from the local community to our Church Services, school performances and other special events.
