Welcome to The Community College, Chulmleigh
  Where the individual matters

The College has a reputation for its caring commitment to academic achievement. Our GCSE results are consistently amongst the highest in the county. Students are happy, work hard and succeed in most of their endeavours. We are, however, not complacent. Our motto "Nihil Quam Optime" (Nothing But Our Best) speaks for itself. Experienced and well qualified teachers, improving facilities and a supportive community, including parents and governors, are vital to the quality of education we offer to your son or daughter. We aim to ensure that our students leave us at age sixteen as well rounded individuals, who are critical thinkers and able to make informed decisions about their further education and subsequent life choices. Our recent designation as a Business and Enterprise Specialist College will strengthen and facilitate this objective.

AIMS

As part of the wider learning community we will inspire excellence and value individuals within an ethos of tolerance and respect for all people. The College will strive to:

  • improve all student examination grades through creating an ‘inclusive for all’ curriculum that enables students to have ownership of their own educational pathways
  • raise post sixteen participation by developing students’ awareness of the importance of lifelong learning . increase the perceived relevance and enrich our curriculum through the greater involvement of the community and business groups
  • arrange for all students to engage in a minimum of two weeks’ work experience to acquire personal understanding of how business functions and appreciate the role it plays in providing world-wide employment and prosperity
  • become a beacon of excellence for Business and Enterprise through which the community can develop and prosper

HOUSE SYSTEM

  • Dart Mr Hunt
  • Taw Mr Stevens
  • Mole Mr Evans
  • Yeo Mr Kenny
Our House system aims to promote friendly competition which improves performance. The four Houses are named after 4 Rivers in the surrounding area:
  • The Houses recognise achievement in sport, positive contribution to community life; academic excellence and the arts. Trained prefects assist in the day-to-day running of the House, which fosters a system of positive peer pressure.
Also each House has its own colour. They are as follows:
  • Dart - Red
  • Taw - Blue
  • Mole - Green
  • Yeo - Yellow

BUSINESS AND ENTERPRISE SPECIALIST STATUS

The knowledge of how to interact with the business community is a skill that everyone needs on a day to day basis no matter what future career path we may decide to follow. This can cover everything from booking a holiday, designing a kitchen to placing orders for a large company or promoting new products or businesses. Students who, for example, have an interest in music or art need these skills in order to be able to promote themselves or find outlets for their work.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

We aim to develop students' talents, interests and aptitudes beyond the formal curriculum with a variety of opportunities for enrichment activities. The residential trip or city visit which gives students the opportunity to widen their horizons and to develop inter-personal skills, very often makes more obvious the connections between academic knowledge and its wider application.
