We hope that Clayesmore is just the school that you are looking for and that you will glimpse something of the wonderfully exciting and fulfilling place that it is and be enticed into coming to see us. We cover the full age range from 2½ - 13 in the Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep, and from 13 - 18 in the Senior School, with both schools happily co-existing on the most beautiful site. We really are a family school, not just in the sense that all the family can come to Clayesmore, but because this is how we live our lives here, with every adult, boy and girl, being part of the great Clayesmore family.

Enjoy our website - we've freshened it up for the new year but will be launching a new one in a few months' time - and we hope to see you soon.

Our Mission

  • To be a school where every individual is valued and where each may have the opportunity to be proud of their talents and achievements;
  • To inspire a love of learning and to provide a modern curriculum designed to equip our pupils with the confidence to meet the challenges of the world beyond school;
  • To enable pupils to flourish through the warmth of their relationship with the staff, and to cultivate the highest standards possible from everyone;
  • To offer excellence in pastoral care, which guides, protects and supports pupils at all times;
  • To offer continuous education, for all the family, with a seamless transition between Prep and Senior Schools;
  • To promote traditional values of courtesy, good manners and honesty and to encourage in all pupils an awareness of the moral responsibilities that surround them as members of a closely-knit community;
  • To teach and strengthen pupils understanding of the Christian faith, to develop their spirituality and to encourage their tolerance and awareness of other religious beliefs;
  • To encourage all pupils to play a full part in a diverse range of school activities and to give them the chance to fully develop their sporting and cultural interests;
  • To manage ourselves efficiently in order to sustain and enrich the Clayesmore experience and fulfil our vision and mission.

Academic

Clayesmore's academic ethos is very much centred on encouraging, motivating and inspiring pupils to reach further, to achieve lasting academic results and to develop a lifelong love of learning.

Year 9 serves as a year in which the Key Stage 3 syllabus is completed along with a firm foundation for the GCSE courses. An able pupils programme is in place to ensure that the curriculum is delivered at exactly the right level for each child. In years 10 and 11, pupils study for their GCSEs, taking between 8 and 12 subjects according to ability and interests. In the Sixth Form, over 1000 different combinations of AS and A2 courses are on offer. Pupils usually begin their Sixth Form career by following four AS level courses, dropping to three at A2. 98% of Upper Sixth Form pupils go on to the university of their choice.

Professional careers advice
Careers education is an established part of the curriculum for the junior Years 9 and 10. At this time pupils are shown how to use the resources of the careers library and are encouraged to begin to identify their strengths and weaknesses in particular areas of life. They learn how to research a variety of career options utilising reference books, the Internet and video resources.

From Year 11 onwards, in addition to time-tabled careers lessons, pupils are asked to attend careers workshops where they can discuss their academic progress and match this with career profiles. To support this, the School invites COA (Cambridge Occupational Analysts) to test and interview all pupils.

Investment in academic and pastoral infrastructure
Two items remain constantly under review in the Clayesmore development plan: Continual renewal and refurbishment of the boarding houses and the updating of classroom and teaching facilities in order to stay abreast of today's increasing demands on the curriculum. In recent years most of the boarding houses have been renovated to provide warm, comfortable and modern facilities designed to give all boarders that 'feel good' factor when they return there after a day in school.

The latest in academic investment is the opening of the Spinney Centre.This super new building is home to the Geography, History, Business Studies and Career departments as well as staff offices and common room.

Our Aims

The Friends of Clayesmore was established in 1992, its purpose being to bring together the parents of the children attending the school with a view to providing a platform for communication, informal liaison and to the promotion of the ethos of the school.

Our three main objectives therefore are:

  • To promote the fellowship among the parents and pupils of Clayesmore School
  • To assist the interests of the school by organising fundraising events and deploying profits to appropriate departments, serving the generic interests of a broad range of pupils, for facilities and resources in addition to those provided by the school
  • To act as ambassadors and promote the good name of Clayesmore wherever we go

IN A NUTSHELL: we are a friendly, informal group organising fun events that bring together the Clayesmore community and that provide funds for the ‘ icing on the cake’ in terms of items and equipment for our children.

Membership

Membership is automatically offered to the following:

  • Every parent of legal guardian of a child currently attending the school
  • Every parent or legal guardian of a child who has attended the school in the past
  • Any friend of Clayesmore
  • All staff members
