WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL!!!

SENIOR SCHOOL CURRICULUM

The year 9 curriculum offers, in equal measure, challenge and experiment, breadth and extension, and a certain amount of essential consolidation. In addition to the usual academic subjects, Clayesmore has developed a Personal and Social Philosophy syllabus that encompasses religion and spirituality, health and social issues, citizenship, financial awareness, and careers. This begins in year 9 and extends through into higher year groups.

BOARDING

Boarding life at Clayesmore closely resembles the atmosphere and diversity of a busy, happy family. 60% of pupils board in one of our five houses, each of which is run by a team of House Staff, Matrons and Tutors. Ensuring the happiness and welfare of every individual is of paramount importance. Pupils are guided, supported and protected with great sensitivity and care appropriate to their age, which means they can confidently get on with the business of developing their talents and achieving success.

Clayesmore offers a full boarding service which means that pupils have every opportunity to take part in a vast range of extra curricular activities and pursuits in the evenings and every weekend. There are two planned exeat weekends each term.

EXTRA-CURRICLAR

An exceptionally varied and exciting programme of activities is in operation every week with timetabled sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Activities also spill over into evening sessions and weekends.

From year 10, pupils can opt to embark on the much coveted Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, starting with their bronze award and working towards gold during the Sixth Form. The Combined Cadet Force, offering both Army and Air Force sections is a weekly fixture for all year 10 pupils, providing excellent opportunities to develop team building and leadership skills which are of immeasurable value. Activities include fieldwork, orienteering, assault courses, rifle ranges, flying lessons and camping expeditions. The CCF is tremendously popular and pupils often continue in the CCF right the way through to Sixth Form.

SIXTH FORM

The Sixth Form at Clayesmore offers you two of the very happiest and most fulfilling years of your life. Our aim is to combine first class academic teaching for AS and A-level with a range of sporting, cultural, social and leadership experiences that will equip you for university and your chosen career. The whole programme for the Sixth Form is linked and intertwined because it is so important that you leave here having reached your full potential in as many spheres as possible. Sixth Form life is different to what you’re accustomed to. To begin with it’s good to be able to leave behind some of those subjects you have rather lost interest in and concentrate on four subjects which really appeal to you. There are well over 1000 different combinations of subjects on offer here and you really shouldn’t find it difficult to put together the subjects and the combination you want.

You will be working in much smaller groups that those to which you’re accustomed, and it leads to a much more relaxed and friendly relationship. That is actually what Sixth Formers enjoy more than anything. It is no coincidence that for teaching staff, Sixth Form work is always the icing on the cake and is the work they enjoy most at School.
