ABOUT US

Coppice Junior School is a 2 form entry junior school situated close to the centre of Oldham. We share a site with Coppice Infant School.

AIMS

  • To maintain a safe, happy and pleasant environment.
  • To involve all pupils in a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum.
  • To maintain and develop high quality teaching and learning.
  • To continue to work in partnership with children, their parents and the community.
  • To expect and encourage high standards of behaviour.
  • To value the cultural diversity of our pupils and ensure school is a place where all children have equal opportunity to develop spiritual, moral and social well being.
  • To support the work of the school by effective management of finances, curriculum, resources, administration and personnel.

CURRICULUM AND ORGANISATION

Children who attend Coppice are placed into age group classes. There are two classes in each year group. Staff at the infant school provides advice and support so transfer is a happy occasion for the children.

There are 8 classes, 2 in each year group. There can be a maximum of 35 children in each year group. All classes are supported by various support staff, nursery nurse support, classroom support staff, bi-lingual support staff, home school liaison officer and a learning mentor. Parents, students and governors work with the children in the classroom with guidance from the class teacher.

Children will be taught in different ways in the classroom. They are taught in whole classes, small groups and individually.

The school aims to provide a relevant, broad and balanced curriculum, which encompasses the requirements of the National Curriculum and caters for the children’s individual needs.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR

There are a number of extra-curricular activities offered on a regular basis. During 2005 - 2006 we have continued our involvement in the Sports Co-ordinator Scheme. The school has achieved the Sports Achievement Award as a result of the good sports activities we provide. e.g. cricket, football, tennis, hockey, netball and rugby. School clubs also available have been computer, chess, drama, gardening, homework and First Aid. Please encourage your child/children to take part in these activities. At Coppice Junior School we believe that these activities help to broaden your child’s learning and enable them to meet with the teachers in a more relaxed setting. Some clubs may be limited by number or year group.
