The school has a strong secondary ethos and mirrors mainstream practice in most areas of educational life. We maintain a strong curriculum focus and all pupils sit GCSE examinations in year 11.The broad aim of the school is to help pupils to manage their behaviour so that they can do more classroom learning. The real advantage in a school like this is that the pupil/teacher ratio is a maximum of 1:8. This gives both pupils and teachers the best chance of success. We also emphasise rewards rather than sanctions, which allows us ‘to catch young people being good’, raise self-esteem and increase the likelihood of pupils attempting new and challenging tasks in the classroom. |
