This is the front view of the school.  It is a rural school.  We do not use this entrance now because of the busy main road.  Our garden is at the front of the school.  We also hold our sports day here.

Even though our building is quite old we have had some building works completed and  now have a new entrance, a new toilet block and disabled access to our school.  We have two classes in the school and can take up to 48 pupils.

Our playground is in this part of the school and it is well used.  We even have new picnic tables outside for the summer.

THE BADGE

An anchor is very apt as a choice of emblem for a community whose past and present are so closely linked with the sea.

The badge for the school was chosen in 1982. It is in the shape of a shield, and shows one central anchor flanked by two smaller ones.  The badge is in the school colours of pale and royal blue.

The idea for the design came from a macramé anchor, which was presented to the school by the crew of a German ship, 'Sachenwald'.

ENTERPRISE

The concept of 'enterprise' is being embedded into the curriculum to enhance the learning experience of children.

Children will gain experience and confidence in their abilities

Know their strengths and weaknesses

Develop positive and 'can do;' attitudes

Practise and develop their life skills which will be used in the wider world

ECO SCHOOL

Our two Eco School reps have been very busy in the school.  They have been working with other pupils  to look at the following:

LITTEROur school has never had a problem with litter but we are all much more aware of it and to help us we now have hippo bins.

WASTEWe are recycling our paper and separating our waste.  We have had a workshop to talk about being  'Waste Aware'.

ENERGYWe now make sure our lights are turned off when we leave a room and only have on what we need.

WATER:  Our taps in the toilets all turn off automatically now.  This means no-one can accidentally leave them on!

TRANSPORTWe are starting to walk to school more often now and P6/7 are soon to take their cycling proficiency tests.

HEALTHY LIVINGThis is huge with us now.  Our healthy tuck shop is up and running and is so much better than before.

SCHOOL GROUNDS:  We are discussing this one at the moment and hope to make this part of our Silver Award for Eco School status.
