In Crookfur we aim to provide happy and safe environment, where your child will be encouraged and helped to reach their potential. We foster in pupils a positive attitude to work and achievement and encourage them to be independent and motivated to learn.

The partnership between home and school is central to achieving this and we aim to ensure all parents are fully informed and involved in their child's education.

If  you have not already visited the school, we would be delighted to welcome you and show you around.

Head Teacher

CORE INFO

Crookfur Primary is situated in Newton Mearns, in East Renfrewshire Council.  The associated High School is Eastwood High School and the other cluster primaries are Uplawmoor Primary and Neilston Primary.

The school roll is currently 400 pupils. There are two classes at each stage.

The present staffing complement is 18.27FTE.  We also have visiting staff from the Authority Network Learning Support Team and the Bilingual Service.

There are a large number of placing requests, of which many are from Glasgow.  We have a large number of bilingual pupils.  We operate a policy of inclusion and equality and so have two SEN assistants and six classroom assistants.  We also have a full time bilingual assistant.

The school has excellent links with the local community and has a very supportive School Board and PTA. The school has a devolved budget from the local authority: a major part of this is utilised in support of the school plan.

School Council

Each class from Primary 4 to 7 chooses a boy and a girl to represent them on the School Council.  The Council meets with the Head Teacher once a month to discuss issues of importance to the pupils.  Last session the Councillors held a Business Breakfast to develop positive business links. They also organised a Fairtrade Tuck shop for the whole school.

The Council are currently talking about A Curriculum for Excellence (ACfE) and what it means to be a successful learner, confident individual, responsible citizen and effective contributor. Last term they produce a DVD about ACfE, which was shown at the Glasgow Film Theatre.

Being a Good Crookfur Citizen

All pupils in the school were involved in raising money to help build a school in Africa as part of the 'Stand up for Africa' appeal. This was a whole school Enterprise project: P7 organised a Fairtrade Tuck shop, P6 hosted a 'Cream Tea', P4 ran a Farmers Market and 'Smoothie' Stall. Each class organised a game for the Fayre. A total of £970 was raised for this appeal. Thank you to everyone who attended this special event.

At the Harvest Fayre P5 raised £62.50 for the Marie Curie Appeal, P3 delivered flowers to local Sheltered Housing, P1 and P2 collected gifts for Glasgow City Mission.

At our Christmas Fayre P6 sold festive gifts they had made. They collected money at the P1/2 and P5 nativities. They raised a total of £189.23 for Cash for Kids.

We are very proud of the wonderful efforts.

Achievements

We are delighted to have gained recognition for all our Enterprise work by achieving a Platinum Award. This is due to all the hard work of our pupils, staff, parents and business contacts. We are very proud to be an enterprising school.

We are very proud to have been awarded a 'Bronze Beech Award', for recycling 341 Yellow Pages as part of the Yellow Woods Challenge 2006. Well done everyone who collected Yellow Pages.
