About Dair House
Dair House's ethos is to give every child the opportunity to develop their full potential by offering a broad and balanced curriculum in a happy and stimulating environment with an emphasis on promoting a love of learning, positive thinking and caring attitudes. The happiness, health and welfare of all pupils in all activities is our first priority. It is our aim to develop in each child confidence and a true sense of worth. The small classes and family environment of Dair House ensure quality teaching goes hand in hand with excellent pastoral care. We operate a House system that encourages children to develop a sense of kinship and team spirit while also providing opportunities for pupils to take on roles of responsibility as prefects.
Our Philosophy
The emblems in the Dair House coat of arms encapsulate, and are representative of, the philosophy and values we hold dear and which we strive for. Click on each emblem to load a larger version in a new window.
The bee from the Dair House coat of arms represents academic industriousness. We encourage our pupils to apply themselves diligently to their work and we consistently reward effort so that they can see for themselves the fruits of their endeavours.
The sun on our coat of arms is symbolic of the warm, nuturing atmosphere that characterises life at Dair House.
The flower emblem on our coat of arms is representative of our children flourishing and thriving at Dair House. We recognise that all children's needs are different and if they are to flower then their individual needs must be recognised and provided for. At Dair House we provide the best possible environment in which children can flourish and grow as individuals.
The values embodied in the Dair House emblem are summarised in our motto, which translates as, "a sure foundation from the start". With a strong emphasis on developing pupils' academic, creative, personal, social and cultural skills we are passionate that wherever life after Dair House School takes our boys and girls, they will be well-equipped to deal with whatever challenges lie ahead.
Facilities
Our classrooms have been developed to ensure age-appropriate environments are created for each year group that maintain the light, warm, family atmosphere of the school. The children enjoy excellent facilities for music, art, design & technology, an ICT suite and well stocked library.
The overall grounds are large and offer unlimited scope for outdoor play and sport including: football, tag-rugby, hockey, netball, cricket, rounders, tennis and athletics as well as nature and environmental studies.
New Developments
As part of the school's new expansion plans that will enable boys and girls to continue their education at Dair House right through to age eleven, we have to already started work on developing the existing facilities.
Plans are underway to provide required classrooms, improved facilities for music, art and design & technology, an enhanced ICT suite, a new whole school library, increased floor space in the sports hall and age appropriate changing and toilet facilities. School lunches will continue to be offered that will maintain the existing high standards of freshly prepared, high quality food.
Construction work, as required, will continue through to summer 2009 in order of priority, to meet the needs of each year as it moves through the school. All alterations to the building will be carried out by qualified and registered builders and will comply with necessary building regulations. Major structural work will take place in the holidays to minimise disruption to children and staff.
History of Dair House
Founded in Farnham Common in1932, Dair House moved to its present site in Farnham Royal in 1962. Originally a proprietor owned school, it became a registered charity, with a Board of Governors, in 1976. The school was accredited by the ISJC in 1987, and the present Headmaster is a member of the ISA.
Following the Inspectors' Committee meeting of the Independent Schools Inspectorate in January 2007, Dair House has been elected to full membership of the Incorporated Association of Preparatory Schools. This is a major achievement for the school. IAPS is an association consisting of approximately 550 of the leading independent preparatory schools in the UK and oversaes. IAPS stands for all-round excellence, and seeks to promote the highest professional standards of independent education.
The school has regular Ofsted and ISI inspections. The latest ISI inspection was in November 2004 and the latest Ofsted Nursery Inspection was in March 2005. Please click here for details.
The religious affiliation of Dair House is the Church of England but all faiths, or none, are welcome and assemblies include all pupils and staff.
The development of the school has always been a consideration of the Board of Governors and over the years a number of additions have been made to the original building. This has enhanced the facilities for teaching and learning and provides a safe and secure environment for all the pupils.
