Damers Community First School is a large first school on the west side of Dorchester, the County town of Dorset. It takes children from 4 to 9 years of age, in the school years of Reception to Year 4. The children transfer at the age of 9 to Dorchester Middle School, although some will transfer to St Osmunds CE VA Middle School on the other side of town. The school was built as a Junior school in 1934, and since then has been enlarged. It has three playgrounds, including one as a quiet area, and another a small hard football area. The school is lucky to have its own large playing field, pond and environmental areas, which provide interest and are good resources for science lessons. The school has its own indoor swimming pool, which is used throughout the year, and swimming is part of our curriculum.

Damers is a welcoming, caring place where stimulating and creative learning takes place.

Our children are encouraged to:

  • Do their best, persevere, respond to challenge, enjoy the gift of learning and value their work;
  • Take responsibility, be proud of their good behaviour and support each other.
We aim to:
  • Provide a range of opportunities, drawing on our unique strengths, to enrich children’s learning and lives;
  • Accept and value individual differences, developing spiritual and moral awareness;
  • Work in partnership with children, parents, carers, staff and teachers alongside the wider community.

Kaleidoscope Club is Damers School's 'Kids Club' It is an excellent facility, used by children both before and after school hours. Anita Goddard and her team provide varied and exciting activities which are designed to stimulate the children as well as providing a relaxing environment after the school day. The Reception children can also join the Wrap Around Club in the Autumn Term which cares for children after their morning school until their parents can collect them after they finish work.
