Welcome to Daven Primary School

About us

Daven Primary School aims to foster positive relationships between staff, pupils, parents and the wider community. We will endeavour to put into place the foundations on which to build future skills for adult life, so that the children can become valuable members of society. We will encourage them to respect other cultures and beliefs and by providing a challenging, supportive and creative environment, we believe we can motivate children to their full potential.

MISSION STATEMENT

Daven Primary School aims to foster positive relationships between staff, pupils, parents and the wider community. We will
endeavour to put into place the foundations on which to build future skills for adult life, so that the children can become valuable members of society. We will encourage them to respect other cultures and beliefs and by providing a challenging, supportive and creative environment, we believe we can motivate children to their full potential.

ORGANISATION

CURRICULUM

From September 2000, all Reception children will follow a curriculum based on early learning goals. The curriculum concentrates on the development of the following areas:
personal, social and emotional; language and literacy; mathematical knowledge and understanding;
physical and creative.

From Year 1, the children follow the National Curriculum. The pattern of classroom organisation is such that much of the work is done in small flexible groups, although there will obviously be occasions when the whole of the class will be taught together. Often, occasion may warrant the teacher working with an individual.

The curriculum consists of:

The Core Subjects
English, Maths, Science, ICT, RE.

The Foundation Subjects
PE, Music, Geography, History, Technology, Art.

This is now seen as a child's minimum entitlement. We hope to encompass this within a broad curriculum providing a suitable diversity of activities, matched to the needs of all pupils, providing genuine challenge and excitement and requiring increasingly sustained application on the part of the children.

UNIFORM

We encourage children to wear school uniform as we hope they will feel proud to belong to our school.
Girls
- dark skirt or pinafore,  white shirt, navy sweatshirt/cardigan
Summer:  Blue and white checked dress
Boys
- dark trousers (jeans are not encouraged),  white shirt, navy sweatshirt
  Summer:  Plain dark shorts

Sweatshirts, Cardigans, Polo Shirts and T-Shirts are available from School -  the PTA hold
a monthly uniform shop where items of uniform are on sale.
All children require a PE Kit in a "pump bag" - T-Shirt, Shorts and Pumps (trainers are not encouraged for indoor lessons)

All children wearing earrings will be asked to remove these for PE and Games lessons.  If your child
cannot remove earrings without help, would you please supply elastoplasts to cover the earrings during PE and Games sessions.
