Ditton CE Junior School

Mission Statement

It is our school’s aim to provide a happy, stimulating environment for independent learning, in order to engender both a sense of self-esteem, and to allow each individual in the school community to develop to their own unique potential.  As a Church of England School, we operate within a broadly-based Christian framework, but we both recognise and celebrate religious diversity amongst our pupils.

LEARNING TOGETHER

We aim to provide a balanced and broad education for all children in our care.  By learning together we aim to:

Enable children to reach their full potential in all aspects of the school’s curriculum, acquiring in particular effective skills in Literacy and Numeracy

Provide children with skills and strategies appropriate to the world outside the classroom

Develop a love of learning and to inspire lifelong learning

Help them to live together in a community and to show respect, tolerance and sensitivity to others

Encourage children to become responsible, independent people who are able to appreciate the world around them

Develop a sense of moral responsibility and self discipline

Develop spiritual awareness and Christian values, along with an understanding and appreciation of other faiths

COLLECTIVE WORSHIP

All members of the school community are encouraged to take part in collective worship.  Parents are discouraged from withdrawing pupils from worship and are advised to talk to the Headteacher and/or Rector before taking sch action.

Acts of worship or assemblies are held each day.  During the school year each class will lead an assembly for the whole school.

The school visits St. Peter’s Church every term to take part in Christian festivals and to attend services; the Rev Terranova also leads worship once a week in school.

The school welcomes visitors and speakers to its assemblies, both from Christian background and other faiths.
