Inspiring Learning - Promoting Success

We believe that every child has a gift in at least one area of the curriculum. The challenge facing us is to allow children the opportunity to discover and develop that gift.

In order to meet that challenge our school has three very simple aims:

  1. To inspire children to learn
  2. To promote success in all its various forms
  3. To create as many opportunities as possible for learning and personal success

Our school is a very special place and we believe we are lucky to work and learn in such a happy and supportive environment. It is our sincere hope that we can develop and improve upon these existing strengths.

What did the HMIe have to say about our school?

"Dunbar Grammar School provides a very effective and improving education for its pupils." HMIE April 2004 Inspection report

Dunbar Grammar School is a six-year comprehensive, non-denominational and co-educational school.

It serves the town of Dunbar and the surrounding area offering a broad range of courses for all students up to Advanced Higher level. It is one of six secondary schools in East Lothian. Our current roll is about 750 students.

The school has recently undergone major refurbishment and extension thanks to a Private Public Partnership (PPP). The school is fully equipped for disabled access.

The other big change is that students can earn house points not only by taking part in sports but by participating in all kinds of activities.

The current standings are as follows:

Winterfield 647
Victoria 620
Lauderdale 446
