Welcome to East-the-Water Primary School

Latest: we are currently in the process of appointing a new headteacher. As such our website is currently under review and updates are forthcoming. Please bear with us in the meantime.

East-the-Water is separated from the rest of the town by the River Torridge. It is quite small (population of about 4,500 but soon to grow by some 1,000 homes through several new build schemes), has a village-like atmosphere and is on the outskirts of the town.

We cater for children from Nursery to Year 6 and also run North Devon’s Hearing Support Centre. We have a strong tradition of taking children with a range of disabilities and pride ourselves on our children’s ability and willingness to accept and embrace difference.

The children’s behaviour is good, there is an eagerness on their part to learn and work hard and standards are rising all the time. The parents are supportive and a PTA has recently been formed, as has a School Council. We participate in local sporting and arts events with the other schools in the area, and have a commitment to daily exercise through the Take 10 programme.

We are very proud of our achievement and would like to welcome you to our community

  • we provide a positive, stimulating and enjoyable learning environment;
  • we provide a broad foundation of successful learning skills to encourage curiosity and questioning in order to enable our pupils to become independent learners;
  • we provide a safe, caring and creative environment;
  • we encourage children to feel valued, accepted and develop their selfesteem;
  • our staff and governors provide positive role models;
  • we emphasise individual care within a framework of individual aspirations;
  • the school aims to be at the hub of the community;
  • we have a clear strategy for continued improvement with which we regulary monitor;
  • we aim to bring out the best in every child.
  • provide equal opportunities in all aspects of our work

The County Council is required to have a procedure in place for parents to apply for primary and secondary school places for their child to join Reception Year, Year 3 at Junior Schools or Year 7 at Secondary Schools. The procedure must cover all maintained primary and secondary schools, including those where the County Council is not the admitting authority (i.e. schools in other LAs, Foundation Schools and Voluntary Aided Schools). There must also be a procedure for parents to apply for places at other times, for example, late arrivals into the area or admission into other year groups.
