Welcome Letter from the Headteacher and Chair of Governors

Dear Parents

Elmlea Junior School is a school where children enjoy learning. For children to be successful, learning and happiness go hand in hand. The teachers, parents, carers and governors are committed to working together to promote children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning through a structured, lively and innovative curriculum.

Your child will develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes that will be the foundation for their future success. We foster attitudes of courtesy, thoughtfulness, and a sense of responsibility for their own lives, for those of the people around them and for the world at large.

There is, no better way of judging a school than by visiting. If you would like to make an appointment we are pleased to show you around and answer individual questions.

A meeting takes place in the summer term for parents and carers of children who will be starting with us in the following September.

Yours sincerely,

Clare Galliers - Headteacher and Jonathan Evans - Acting Chair of Governors

History of the school

The school was opened as a maintained County Mixed Junior and Infant School in 1957. With the growth of the school it was decided to re-organise in 1970 into two schools, an Infant School which occupies the new buildings on the site and a Junior School housed in the original buildings. Elmlea Junior Community School is organised as a two/three form un-streamed entry school, the children enter the school in the September following their 7th birthday and leave to join Secondary School in the September following their 11th birthday. The qualifying date is the 31st August in both cases. The maximum number of children we are allowed to take in any one year group (planned admission level) is 75.
