Catholic Primary School

Welcome to English Martyrs' School known for its friendly, caring environment in which children can thrive.  The school is well liked by pupils; parents appreciate the fact that the pupils are expected to work hard and to do their best in all ways.

We respect parents as their children's first teachers and believe that co-operation is vital if children are to develop to their full potential.  We aim to nurture in our children a sense of responsibility and respect for themselves, for others and for the world around us.

As a catholic school we strive to create an environment in which children grow spiritually as well as developing socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually.

Maureen Pearson - Head Teacher

The National Curriculum is organised on the basis of four key stages, the first two of which apply to Primary schools as follows:

Key Stage One – children aged 5 - 7             in year groups 1 – 2

Key Stage Two – children aged 7 – 11           in year groups 3 – 6

Children are assessed at the end of each Key Stage.   Results of these assessments are published and individual children’s results are given to their parents at the end of year reports.

The National Curriculum, is divided into the core subjects – English, Mathematics, Science, and the Foundation Subjects – Design Technology, ICT, History, Geography, Art, Music and Physical Education.
