Hello, thank you for visiting the website for Epping Junior School which is designed to give you some basic information and a 'feel' for the school.

We are a Junior School situated close to St John's Church and Epping High Street. We have close links with our 'feeder' infant school, Epping Infants and with our local comprehensive, St Johns School, which are both within easy walking distance. We have a breakfast club and after school facility on site run by 4 Kidz which offers good quality childcare from 8am - 8.45am and 3.15pm - 6.00pm. 4Kids is also open all day every day during the school holidays.

We are dedicated to working in partnership with parents to provide the best possible education for the children. We have high expectations that every child will work hard and do their best to succeed so we set high standards of behaviour and academic achievement. We work hard to provide an encouraging, stimulating and friendly environment and we welcome and depend on the interest and support of parents.

The OFSTED team who inspected the school in December 2002 said in their report,

"Throughout the school teachers are enthusiastic and they work hard to make learning fun. They use a good range of resources to make lessons purposeful and interesting."

UNIFORM

We are very proud that the children always look smart in their uniforms and we rely on parents to ensure that children come to school smartly dressed in our school colours.

All clothing brought into school must be clearly named.

  • School SWEATSHIRTS, POLO SHIRTS, FLEECE JACKETS AND WOOLLY HATS can be ordered through the school. These are embroidered with our school logo, which is based on the old school badge. A form for this purpose is enclosed.
  • All children wear a white shirt (blouse) or a white polo shirt in cotton with a collar.
  • All children wear the school sweatshirt or a plain jumper/sweatshirt/cardigan in black.
  • Boys wear black trousers, girls black skirt or tailored black trousers.
  • All children wear black shoes, no trainers please! Girls generally wear white socks or black tights.
  • Additionally, in summer girls may choose to wear a navy & white striped school dress available from local chain stores. Boys may choose to wear grey school shorts.
  • Coats are parents' choice, but they must be clearly named, please.
  • Baseball caps embroidered with the School logo are available from the school office. All children should wear a hat for school in the summer.
  • Book bags and PE/Swimming bags are also available from the School office.
  • Long hair should be tied back and jewellery must not be worn for school.

Games/P.E/Swimming Kit

  • For P.E all children wear loose-legged black shorts and a plain white T. shirt with short sleeves. All children wear socks and plimsolls (NOT trainers) for this activity.
  • All P.E clothes should be in a clearly named bag.
  • For swimming in Year 5, all children require a costume (NOT bikini) and a named towel. Children with long hair require a hat
  • Swimming bags may be bought from the School Office and are waterproof.

CURRICULUM

At Epping Junior School all children follow programmes of study based on the National Curriculum.
The core curriculum focuses on five subjects: English, mathematics, science, information communication technology (ICT) and religious education. In addition there are seven non-core subjects: design technology, history, geography, music, art & design, French and physical education. The hours spent on teaching during a normal week are 23 hours 20 minutes. This excludes the daily act of worship, registration and lunch/playtimes.

We are a two form entry school with approximately 31 children in each class. The teachers work together in their year groups and then across the school to ensure appropriate coverage of the National Curriculum, continuity and progression. Our year 4 and 5 classes are currently taught together as three year 4/5 mixed age classes.

Copies of all our school policies, including the Race Equality Policy, are available in the school office.

Our school profile is also available at the office and online.
