ABOUT US

Fearns Community Sports College is a Lancashire Comprehensive co-educational day school which caters for children of all abilities between the ages of 11 and 16 years. We offer a wide range of courses, leading to qualifications at all levels, to match the talents and abilities of all pupils. There is also a wide range of clubs and extra-curricular activities for pupils to get the most out of their time at school.

GOALS

At Fearns we set out to enable every child to do the best that they can within a structured and disciplined environment. In doing so we are always conscious of the important partnership between parents, teachers and the individual child which produces the very best educational experience.

We aim to encourage freedom of expression whilst demanding self-discipline, tolerance and understanding towards others. We aim to provide a curriculum which will prepare pupils for the future whilst supporting the very best examination results possible.

FACILITIES

The College's commitment to sport as a vehicle for raising achievement is evident by its investment in sporting facilities which are unique to the area: they include a large sports hall with indoor cricket pitches, gymnasium, multi-gym, a fully floodlit Astroturf all-weather pitch, and recently upgraded outdoor grassed areas for soccer, rugby, cricket, athletics, etc.

At least 2 hours per week are spent on physical education and the varied programme includes: Soccer, Rugby, Hockey, Netball, Athletics, Badminton, Cricket, Basketball and Gymnastics. In addition to PE lessons, staff offer a variety of opportunities after the close of school and at weekends for pupils to be involved in sporting activities and competitive team games.

Moreover, our sports facilities are extensively used 7 days a week by the community.

CURRICULUM

We aim to provide a curriculum that meets the need of all pupils.

Pupils are placed in mixed ability tutor groups on their arrival at school following consultation and information from the primary schools. They are placed in sets according to ability in most subjects during the first year at Fearns.

Subjects are taught according to National Curriculum guidelines and a wide range of teaching and learning strategies is used to ensure that pupils are actively involved in the learning process. Teachers have high expectations of their pupils.
