WELCOME TO OUR SCHOOL!!!

Gisburn School is a Community school, offering a primary education to children aged 4 to 11 years old.

We hope to provide a caring environment for your child, with a wide range of balanced learning opportunities to help them to grow into independent and responsible people.

We also believe that we can only achieve the best for your child by close co-operation between home and school.

AIMS

  • to enlarge a child’s experience, knowledge and imagination of the world and thereby extending each child’s capacity for enjoyment and awareness of society’s values.
  • to provide opportunities for the development and growth of intellectual and physical skills.
  • to teach the content, skills and processes of the National Curriculum.
  • to recognise that each child is an individual and has a variable capacity to learn.
  • to fulfil the need for regular assessment in all areas of the curriculum
  • to enable children to understand and control their own emotions, and develop emotional stability.
  • to encourage an awareness of and a respect for the needs of others.
  • to help the child recognise the values of working in a group and to take pride in individual success.
  • to create an atmosphere of co-operation between all children within the school and members of staff.

CURRICULUM

Our aim is to provide a full and varied education, where all children are encouraged to develop their talents and interest to the full.

Throughout their school life your child will be taught in all the major subject areas suitable for primary school children. It is important to understand that children do not mature and develop at the same rate and therefore, every effort is made to ensure that the individual needs of your child are met. The basic skills of reading, writing and mathematics are given a high priority and we try to get a proper balance between the traditional and progressive methods. We aim to keep ahead of new developments in education such as interactive whiteboards, but do not abandon worthwhile and traditional methods; tables, spellings and quiet reading!

The school welcomes new technology when it directly impacts on the quality of teaching and learning.

The school has recently installed three interactive whiteboards and invested in staff training to ensure that all the children in our care are supported in their learning by the use of I.C.T. tools in the classroom.
