Our school is co-educational and takes pupils from ages 8 to 12 (Year 4 to Year 7). We are situated in Southwick, in stunning grounds with a large field as well as three playgrounds and two environmental pond areas.

It is our belief that children learn best when they are happy, motivated and interested; it is with this in mind that we structure our curriculum.

Making learning fun is at the heart of our practice and pupils at Glebe benefit from a rich and diverse range of learning experiences.

ADMISSIONS

Glebe Middle School admits children from 8-12 years. Admissions are regulated by the Local Education Authority, normally according to catchment area. However, parents are at liberty to express a preference for any school, and we would encourage you to make an appointment to visit us. You will be made most welcome.

The County's Admissions Policy is outlined in a booklet "Transfer to a Junior or Middle School", which is published by the Authority. Both the leaflet and application forms are available from the Area Education Officer at Centenary House, Durrington Lane, Worthing, BN13 2QB, or by telephoning (01903) 839141.

Choosing a school is one of the most important decisions that parents make. We believe that choice should be based on your first hand experience and knowledge. We therefore encourage you to visit us. You will be made most welcome!

ANNUAL ARRANGEMENTS:

Pupils are admitted to Glebe Middle School in the September following their eighth birthday. An Open Evening is held in the preceding Autumn Term to provide a general insight into the workings of the School. Finer organisational details and class placements are confirmed at a special meeting for the new intake held in the summer term.

Parents who miss the opportunity to attend these meetings, or who wish to discuss individual needs, are encouraged to telephone the School to arrange a visit. We welcome personal contact with parents. Seeing our School in action and taking the opportunity to discuss areas of concern will help you to make the right choice for your child.

Children of parents moving into the area during the course of the academic year are more than welcome to visit the School in the first instance. Prospectuses are available on request. Formal application for admission will then take place via the Education Office, as above.

EDUCATION AREA:

Glebe Middle School is in the Southern Education Area of West Sussex.

ORGANISATION

Classes

Children are placed in mixed ability, single age classes, under the care and supervision of a class teacher.

Year groups comprise two or three classes, and are arranged as follows:

Year 4  - children aged 8 - 9 years
Year 5 - children aged 9 -10 years
Year 6 - children aged 10 -11 years
Year 7 - children aged 11 -12 years
Houses

Each child is allocated to one of four Houses, named after local castles:

Bramber - Green
Arundel - Red
Pevensey - Yellow
Lewes - Blue

House Captains are elected from Year 7 and are given special responsibilities within the School. A variety of events such as netball, football, cross-country and quizzes are planned throughout the year, in which children represent their nominated House.

FAMILY LEARNING

Family Learning Art Days at Glebe give parents and children an opportunity to work together creating unique works of art.
Famous artists have been used as a stimulus to produce pieces of work, emphasising colour and texture, using a range of techniques and media.

We began by depicting colour using water colour paints. Then, we interpreted texture by using a range of mixed media (anything from a dried broth mix to cornflakes).

Finally, a wall hanging was produced using the technique of felt making.
