Dear Parents/Guardians.

First of all, I'd like to thank you for taking an interest in Glossopdale Community College. As you are well aware, the school you choose is one of the most important decisions you're ever likely to make for your child's future. That's why, we believe in the widest possible horizons for learning and aim to be the finest 11 - 18 College that can be found anywhere.

We aim to provide a stimulating environment that offers much more than an academic institution, by encouraging our students to make knowledge their own and to secure the best possible qualifications for all their futures. This has been reflected in our most recent examination results, which are most encouraging.

As an 11 - 18 College we are very well placed to make the most of the many changes which are coming to secondary education. Increasingly, for the vast majority of students, full time education now continues to the age of 18, so we can ensure the continuity of education for all our students. We aim to provide a stimulating education so that the lessons learnt are also about life and human relationships. We teach our students study skills and how to learn to learn. We encourage all of our students to make knowledge their own and to secure the best possible qualifications for their further education, for their future careers, for leisure and for life after college.

If you have any queries or concerns regarding Glossopdale Community College, please contact us,

Library

There are actually two libraries at Glossopdale staffed by a professional Librarian and an experienced Library Assistant. The libraries are the resource bases of the college, where materials are selected, processed, housed and managed to reflect the needs of the curriculum, the students and the staff. As well as newspapers, magazines and over 18,000 books, the libraries have computers, all with internet access, CD-ROM’s and printing facilities.

The mission of the library is to support students and staff in the process of learning, teaching and personal development, and to raise the standards of literacy through encouraging students to gain a love and enjoyment of books and reading. This is achieved through the provision of high quality information collections and related services.

Books can be borrowed by college students and staff. Please ask at either library for a membership form. Students may borrow a maximum of 2 books at any one time. The loan period is 2 weeks at Glossop and 3 weeks at Hadfield. Books can be renewed for a further period if necessary. Lost books or damaged books must be paid for.

The Library is open all day, including breaks and lunchtimes.
