Welcome to Goostrey Community Primary School

Mission Statement
  • We will achieve our vision by fostering a culture of:
  • Valuing people
  • Openness
  • Developing Potential
About us

Goostrey School is a Community Primary school situated in the centre of a thriving village at the heart of rural Cheshire. The size of our school means we can create the individual, caring environment associated with a village school whilst being large enough to offer a full programme of curriculum and extra-curriculum activities.

The ethos of our school promotes a culture, which is optimistic, confident and focused on the future. There is a warm environment in which every child is assured of individual care and attention.

FROM THE HEADTEACHER

Dear Parents and Carers

School continues to move forward at quite a pace with the pupils making excellent progress in a happy and safe environment.

The interactive whiteboards, which were put in the summer,  are a great asset with staff and pupils using them most effectively in lessons.  The PTA helped fund this excellent resource and we are very grateful to them for all their hard work and continuing commitment to the school.

Our exhibition, held last October, was a huge success and the children displayed their wonderful work to all our visitors.  The mayor opened the exhibition and many people from the local community came and joined us to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Goostrey School.

As well as the Inclusion Quality Mark, we have also been accredited with National Healthy Schools Standard.  Two assessors visited the school and interviewed adults and children.  They were most impressed with the provision in place and gave us an exemplary report on the important issues of well being, physical education and healthy eating.  We are currently submitting for Artsmark Gold to gain recognition for all our outstanding work in the arts.

Pupil voice remains very strong in school, with School Council meeting every week, discussing various issues and bringing these back to whole school for consideration.  As a Fair trade School we also have Fair trade Councillors, who have recently led an initiative in school, resulting in Goostrey School sponsoring a well in Africa which will provide water for 500 people for life.

The school has excellent links with our twin school in South Africa and we have several exciting projects for the future planned.

We are very proud to be the highest performing school in South Cheshire and in the top 200 schools in the country for our results last academic year.  The league tables are only part of the whole picture though.  What really matters is that every child is welcome in our school, all are treated equally and all make great social and academic progress.

Classes continue to go out on visits, which really help to enhance the children’s learning.  Our year 5 recently went on a residential visit and we have had many visitors to the school, from artists to samba musicians and people with exotic creatures!  Our school choir sang at the MEN arena in Manchester as well as at different events in the local community.

I am very lucky to be in a school with such a professional and committed staff and governors, with supportive parents and an excellent community, underpinning all that we do.

If you ever want to visit our thriving and successful school please ring, I am always happy to show people round and discuss our ethos and commitment to the children in our care.

My team’s priority is to ensure that the children get the very best: the best teaching, the best resources and the best learning environment.  This will result in excellent work taking place in a school where the children are happy and safe.

 Kind Regards

 Miss Lyndsey Atkins

Headteacher

FOR PARENTS

Curriculum

We maintain a broad and balanced curriculum with the emphasis on quality. The National Curriculum is covered in a thorough and interesting way, encompassing much more than the statutory requirements.

We also recognise that some pupils, including the more able, have special educational needs and, where necessary in conjunction with the Local Education Authority, we devise special learning programmes for individual children. At key stage 1 (age 5 - 7) and key stage 2 (age 7 - 11), all state schools have to teach all the National Curriculum subjects. They also have to teach religious education and are encouraged by the government to teach personal, social and health education and citizenship. Please click on the links below to find out more about the subjects covered at Goostrey Community Primary School.

SATS

We believe that our approach is reflected in our SATS results achieved at both Key Stage One and Two, which compare favourably with other Cheshire schools of a similar standing.  To view the SATS results please click on the relevant link below.

FOR CHILDREN

We never forget that the most important people in our school are the children. Here are some of the activities they have been doing lately.
