Our Ethos
Within a caring, stimulating environment, we will strive to promote purposeful activity, through which each child from nursery to Primary 7 will extend his/ her understanding in all areas of the curriculum. It is essential that a balance of opportunity exists for creativity, imagination and fantasy, for experiment, discovery and the acquisition of skills.
We believe that attitudes to learning are as important as cognitive development. We want our pupils to be happy and care about others, to have the desire to learn and the necessary skills and aptitudes to become independent learners.
Everyone in our school is unique and valued.
Caring, we believe, is more than intuitive feelings of concern or sympathetic attitudes. It means placing confidence and trust in the capacity of others to take responsibility for themselves, their behaviour, their feelings, their attitudes and their learning. It is the recognition of the worth of the individual that is at the root of the concept of a caring community. It presents a goal that has to be deliberately planned and worked towards.

| Gordon Primary stands in beautiful, historic surroundings within the town of Huntly, overlooking Huntly Castle and the River Deveron. In the Campus are The Gordon Schools, Linden Centre, Swimming Pool and All Weather Pitch.
The Gordon Schools was founded by the Duchess of Gordon in 1839. Gordon Primary School was erected in the early 1970’s, as a department of The Gordon Schools, but became autonomous shortly afterwards. The Nursery (opened 1992) and the Developmental Nursery (opened 2000), are accommodated in the main building.
At present we have 14 primary classrooms – 4 of these are in relocatable units. There are 4 SFL rooms in the heart of the main building. Other teaching areas include a library, a small hall, a main hall and an ICT Suite which was refurbished in 2003 .

| How am I getting on?
There will be a Nursery Parents’ evening at the end of January, and an Open evening in April or May at the same time as the rest of the Primary School. Parent are invited to visit the nursery and talk to staff about the ongoing work.
There is also ample opportunity at the beginning and end of a session to chat informally to a member of staff.
What do I need?
I need names on all my clothes.
Gym shoes for indoor wear - ones that I can put on myself.
Practical clothes I can work in .
Warm outdoor clothes in case I go outside.
Sunscreen if the weather is warm
Hats if it is hot and sunny
Aprons are provided
What will I do at nursery?
There is a wide range of carefully planned activities to choose from that will help develop my concentration, independence, listening skills, physical skills and creativity.
These will include;
Construction toys
Games
Jigsaws
Sand and water play
Books
Singing and music
Baking
Gardening
House corner
Physical play with bikes, ball and parachute.
What is snack time?
This is an important part of my social life in the nursery class. I will be encouraged to try a variety of food from the familiar to the unfamiliar, and will be involved in the preparation and the tidying-up.
I must let the nursery know if I have any allergies.
What do I pay?
I will pay £1 every Monday to cover the cost of the food provided, or it can be paid on a monthly or termly basis.

| SCHOOL MEALS
We have a busy canteen catering for around 270 lunches every day. A choice of cooked meal, including vegetarian dishes, is available each day as is the Milk Bar. Tickets are sold daily in each area of the school by the canteen staff.
Primary 1 to 3 children who bring packed lunches from home are also accommodated in the canteen. In order to relieve congestion in the dinner hall, and to make meal times more relaxing and pleasant, primary 4 to 7 packed lunches are eaten in the classrooms. Supervisors are on duty in the dinner hall while meals are being served.
Families who are in receipt of Income Support, Income based Job Seekers Allowance and entitlement under the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 are entitled to free meals and forms are available from the school office. In addition, if you qualify for a ‘minimum wage’ entitlement please ask for details at the school office.
