Welcome to Gorse Ride Junior School

We are proud to welcome you to Gorse Ride Junior School.  We are a co-educational junior school for children from the age of seven to eleven.  We aim to provide a positive atmosphere where children will feel safe, happy and secure in their learning. That they will develop confidence and grow in all respects so as to achieve the highest quality education for each individual child whatever their previous experiences or present needs.

The school was established in 1971 and has grown to achieve an enviable reputation. In June 2000 we earned the status of "Beacon School" for the excellence of education. Our latest Ofsted report in November 2004 stated that we are a very good school with excellent management. However, education and society in general is always changing and we work hard to keep our practice and and philosophies up to date.

PROSPECTUS

House System

On Monday 10th September we had a special assembly to launch our new House System to reward children and encourage a team approach. Children will be given house points for anything deserving recognition, such as politeness, kindness, helpfulness, extra effort etc. The house points will be totalled each week and the winner announced in assembly. At the end of each half term the overall winner will be announced and a reward - still to be decided - will be given to the children in the winning house.

Our houses are currently simply called Blue, Green, Red and Yellow, but later in the term the children, through the School Council, will be involved in choosing new names as well as the half termly reward.

School Clubs

If your child wishes to take part in one of this term's clubs they should complete a club permission slip and take it to the club leader so they can be considered for a place. Please note the Reading Football Club Coaching and the Judo, run by Feature Sports, have their own application process.  For further details and information on signing up for after school clubs, please read the latest Clubs Newsletter.
