  • TECHNOLOGY COLLEGE

'World Class Learning in a Technological Age’

Greensward College has been a ‘DfES Designated Technology College’ since 1995 and was re-designated for a further 4 years in 2006. As a Technology College, we aim to raise standards of achievement through the increased quality of teaching and learning. The college will continue to develop the use of ICT and learning technologies in every area of the curriculum, ensuring that the needs of all students and subjects are met.

The college will provide up-to-date resources that offer students and staff the opportunity to use and apply technology as an integral part of their learning activities. Therefore, we want students to have excellent access to learning resources that include lesson materials, exemplar materials and extension and intervention materials that are appropriate to their individual learning needs. To meet this aim, the college is currently developing an ‘on-line’ curriculum in all subject areas. Equally, we want our teachers to understand and use technology as a tool for the enhancement of the learning experience of all students.

Enrichment of this work will be provided through the extension of curriculum opportunities in the specialist subjects and beyond. Special events, out-of-school hours activities and work with business partners enhance the learning experiences of all students. We hope that this will result in increased take-up and interest in the specialist subjects both at Key Stage 4 and in the sixth form.

An important part of our work as a Technology College is to work in partnership with our partner primary schools, secondary schools and the community, best practice. Further partnerships exist with local and national businesses and international partners in Australia, America and Europe.

To underpin this the college is strongly committed to the development of people’s competencies in ICT and a series of ICT courses are available. During the past five years as a Technology College we have created an ethos where all staff are committed to preparing students for their roles as lifelong learners in an ever-increasing technological society.
