About Us

Grove Infant School has existed since 1961 on an attractive site by Grove Woods. The school was re-built and the 'new' building opened at the end of July 1990.

The school has nine classes, eight in double bay units, each having toilet and cloakroom facilities. There is an Assembly Hall equipped for PE and dining facilities. There are work areas for art & crafts, a library, resource areas for Science, Technology, Music and Mathematics.

The school shares a large playing field with the Junior School.

Autumn term 1992 saw the start of a Community playgroup set up in two demountable classrooms left in the school grounds.

Since January 1994 the school has been fully responsible for its own budget, staffing and up-keep of premises due to Grant maintained status. In April 1999, grant maintained status ceased to exist and the school became known as a Foundation school.

January 1997 saw the opening of a purpose built Early Years Unit. This means provision for our four year old children, part-time, before they are due to start school.

In February 1999 the school achieved the prestigious Investor in People Award. In March 2004 the school was reassessed and once again received the Investor in People award.

In the Autumn term 2000 we established an ICT suite which enables whole class computer lessons for the children.

In February 2002 the school had a very successful OFSTED which you are very welcome to read on the Internet.

This Summer the school gained its intermediate award in the Healthy Schools initiative. For your information the school has adopted a "No Smoking" Policy at any time on the premises.

The school has its own allotment which has achieved several certificates of merit and prizes in the Rayleigh in Bloom competition.

Grove Infants is a popular school in the area with a reputation for high standards. There are excellent resources at the school for all areas of the curriculum. The school is modern and bright with a happy atmosphere. Parents are encouraged to be part of school life. There are many parent helpers and a parents support group. There is a very supportive team spirit among the staff with each member having responsibilities for curriculum areas.

OUR SCHOOL ETHOS

We aim that within the school there is a safe, happy and secure environment where children learn to respect and relate happily to others.

All our policies are constantly under review - our ultimate aim is to give a sound foundation on which your child can build on to enhance their future role in adult life and to become a caring member of the community.

Arrangements can be made to visit the school by appointment with the Headteacher who will be pleased to see parents, show them the school, and provide further information.

Parents of new entrants will be invited to bring their children to school during the term prior to their admission. This will provide an opportunity for parents and children to meet the Headteacher and to get to know the class teacher. The children will spend time with their class teacher and are shown round the school.

SCHOOL CURRICULUM

The aim of Grove Infant School is to provide a happy secure environment where children can develop as fully as possible. A well thought out balanced school curriculum, incorporating the requirements of the National Curriculum, is implemented by the staff. Key stage 1 levels 1-3 of the National Curriculum is taught in all subjects to the children while they are at Grove Infants. Much of the work stems from a topic theme approach.
