Welcome to Hensall School

Welcome to Hensall School's website.  We are a small friendly primary school in the southern part of North Yorkshire.  Most of the children that attend our school are from the villages of Hensall and Heck, which are our catchment areas and from Eggborough and other neighbouring villages.  Our school has 4 classes ranging from Reception to Year 6.

Hensall School Mission Statement

For all our children to achieve their potential whilst making learning an enjoyable, exciting and worthwhile experience.

INFO

Hensall School is a Community Primary School, catering for children between the ages of 4 to 11.

The original school building was constructed in 1856.  It was designed and built with the Church, by William Butterfield.  It was extended in the 1960's.  In the main building is a hall, a classroom and staffroom.  There has been a large extension to modernise the school, which was completed in 1997 and is built to match the original construction.  The new accommodation includes three classrooms, cloakrooms, toilets including a disabled toilet, office, head's room, library / resource area, kitchen and main entrance.  The building is well adapted for disabled access.  There is an excellent security system; the building has doors fitted with security locks, an electronically operated main entrance door and a security camera in position.

The school is staffed by a Head Teacher, three other class teachers and two part- time class teachers.  There are also six Teaching Assistants who support in class, working with small groups or individuals.  There are five Mid-day Supervisors who supervise the children during the lunch hour.  School meals are cooked on site by our School Cook. The school office is operated by a Finance / Administrative Officer.

COMMUNITY LINKS

Pre-School Links

Many of our children attend Hensall Playgroup, which currently meets in Kellington Village Hall, and Fieldside Nursery in Heck.  We have strong links with both settings and staff from school liaise with staff from both the playgroup and nursery.  To ensure a smooth transition into school a programme of induction visits to school is organised in the summer term prior to children starting school in September.  Parents should contact the following people if they wish to know more about Hensall Playgroup or Fieldside Nursery:
Hensall Playgroup:  Mrs H. Benson-Collinson on 07950 591358
Fieldside Nursery:  Mrs G. Hope on 01977 661523

Links to Secondary School

Children usually transfer at the end of Year 6 to Snaith School for their Secondary Education.  Parents, however, may wish their children to attend other Secondary Schools in the area.  Requests to attend schools other than Snaith are dealt with by:  Area Education Office, Ainsty Road, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, HG1 4XU.  Children who attend Hensall School from outside our catchment area are required to apply separately to Snaith School, at the beginning of Year 6.  These requests are dealt with by East Riding of Yorkshire County Council.  We are happy to give parents information and guidance to help them through the transfer process.  We have particularly strong links with Snaith Secondary School, along with other nearby feeder primary schools in East Riding.

Other Local Links

We have strong links with St. Paul’s Church which is just next door to us.  Our local vicar leads assemblies in school and we use the church for performances during the year.  Similarly, we also link with the Methodist Chapel in Hensall.  We regularly welcome representatives of other local organisations into school to work with our children such as the local Police and Rescue Services, School Nurse, Road Safety Officers and charity organisations.
