We have six classes in our main school: three in Key Stage 1 and three in Key Stage 2. We also operate a very successful 39-place nursery unit.
There is a strong family atmosphere in school, the children feel safe and cared for and the staff take time to build up good relationships with parents and carers. The school has a good reputation in the local community, and indeed, many of our present children’s parents and grandparents also attended High Street.
Over the years, the curriculum may have altered and the emphasis on targets and league tables may have become more apparent, but we hope that at this school, we still think about the needs of the whole child and not just about narrow achievement targets. Anybody who has seen one of our many school productions would be able to testify that music and drama play an important part in our school life. The same could be said for sports. We run a very successful football team and children are encouraged to take an active part in all our clubs and activities.
A good school needs a dedicated staff and at High Street we are fortunate that all our staff, both teaching and non-teaching, work extremely hard to ensure that all our children receive a good quality education.
If a child is happy, confident and feels cared for, s/he will be able to progress more quickly. The only way to really judge a school is by spending some time in it and I would like to encourage any parent/carer who may be thinking of sending their child to our nursery or main school to come along and see what we do. You would be very welcome! "
