Facilities
The school has 5 full IT rooms across the school, a dedicated IT room for Music, and a laptop suite for Business Studies (coming Sept '07), as well a number of smaller suites/drop-in areas around the school. The majority of classrooms are fitted with a data projector (around 80% of which are wireless), and all staff are equipped with tablet PCs. This combination provides a very flexible tool for teaching & learning. information, and video, is disseminated around the school to the data projectors via a network-side streaming system.
The school has approximate 400 PCs - the majority of which are from Dell or RM. Our latest purchase of classroom PCs have the following specification: Intel Core2 Duo 2.66 GHz, 1GB RAM, 80GB SATA HDD, 1GB Ethernet. Toshiba laptops are being introduced in areas around the school for student use.
All school computers are running the Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP2 operating system, with Microsoft Office XP or 2003 available. Additionally the computers have a large amount of departmental and cross-curricular software available.
All computers have Internet access, which is provided via a fast 10MB broadband connection, this in turn connects to the national JANET educational network. All students have access to school email accounts. To facilitate wider-learning - students have access to their work files, school email, learning resources, and school Virtual Learning Environment (provided by the open-source software Moodle), from any Internet-enabled computer.
The school takes its duty of care to the online safety and protection of students very seriously. WebSense Internet filtering is in place which ensures the websites accessible by students are of an appropriate nature, and blocks inappropriate content. Additionally, Securus logging software is installed on all computers - ensuring any grooming, bullying, or other issues, are brought to the school's attention as soon as possible. |
